"JUST FOR TODAY DO NOT WORRY..."
REIKI (PRONOUNCED RAY-KEY) is an original method of healing and has been practised for centuries. Dr Mikao Usui developed it further in Japan early in the 20th century. Practitioners are attuned in Reiki and act as a channel to allow the energy to pass to the recipient. This process then stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities and creates a feeling of well-being and relaxation.
Ask anyone who has had a Reiki session how they feel afterwards and expect a positive response! At the very least a feeling of deep relaxation and warmth is experienced that usually lasts for several days. Reiki can benefit in many ways, encouraging healing and gentle change. There is no promise to cure, but positive results often occur... the body sometimes just needs a boost so it can heal itself.
Reiki can assist with anything physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Sometimes we have energy blocks that create a physical illness or hold us up in our personal development. By healing, soothing and encouraging a better energy flow Reiki allows the body to make the shifts necessary to achieve well-being and good health. Reiki is now being used in hospices and rehabilitation programs as the medical profession moves towards acknowledging the benefits. You do not have to have an ailment to feel the benefits of Reiki, many men and women use it purely as a relaxation technique.
The Treatment
The beauty of a Reiki treatment is that it’s very flexible. A person can either sit or lie down with all clothes on while the practitioner places their hands over the energy centres of the body. Hands are usually kept a few inches away from the body – touching is not required to give Reiki.
Most people notice sensations such as tingling or changes in temperature. Some find it so relaxing that they drift into a meditative state or fall asleep. Some people find they feel an improvement straight away, while others may find it’s a few days before they realise there has been an improvement.
Treatments usually last for 45 minutes. Reiki is usually more effective if several sessions occur over a few weeks, although benefits can occur within the initial treatment. Some conditions can be helped quickly while others may take longer.
An initial consultation is carried out where any problems are identified, a health questionnaire is completed and an initial course of treatment is suggested. This will always be flexible and subject to personal preferences. Please note Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine. A GP should always be consulted and conventional medicines taken where prescribed. Reiki works as a complementary therapy alongside orthodox medicine.
